General anesthesia (2h)

general intubation anesthesia

€350
2 h

General anesthesia is a controlled medical state in which consciousness and pain sensation are fully suppressed during surgery. It is managed by an anesthesiologist-intensivist. Breathing is supported with dedicated equipment and all vital functions are continuously monitored.

General anesthesia for procedures lasting up to 2 hours is used for more complex or longer ENT operations when local anesthesia is not sufficient or not appropriate, for example:

  • septoplasty or turbinate surgery;
  • endoscopic sinus surgery;
  • tonsil surgery such as tonsillectomy or tonsillotomy;
  • pediatric procedures such as adenoidectomy or tympanostomy;
  • middle ear surgery such as myringoplasty or stapedoplasty;
  • other ENT surgical interventions.

How to prepare for surgery under general anesthesia?

First step

Follow the anesthesiologist’s instructions regarding food and drink before surgery.

Second step

On the morning of surgery, do not eat or drink, except for a small sip of water approved for essential medication.

Third step

Tell your doctor about all regular medication, allergies, and any previous experience with anesthesia.

Fourth step

Do not smoke for at least 6 hours before the procedure.

Fifth step

Bring the anesthesiologist’s consultation note and all required test results.

What happens during general anesthesia?

administers anesthetic medication intravenously to ensure unconsciousness and pain control;

secures breathing with endotracheal intubation or another suitable airway method;

continuously monitors heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and oxygen saturation, adjusting the depth of anesthesia throughout the operation.

What to expect after surgery?

goes to the recovery room, where monitoring continues until the effects of anesthesia have worn off safely;

receives instructions from both the anesthesiologist and the surgeon about the next steps;

is informed about possible short-term side effects such as nausea or mild disorientation and how they are managed.

After anesthesia, at least 4 hours of observation in the clinic are planned before going home. For the following 24 hours, driving, using dangerous equipment, or making important legal decisions is not allowed.
