Tympanometry and ipsilateral reflex testing

€30

Tympanometry with detection of ipsilateral reflexes is an extended diagnostic examination that, in addition to standard tympanometry, also evaluates the acoustic reflex – the automatic response of the middle ear muscle to loud sounds. This reflex provides additional information about the activity of the auditory nerve and brainstem, helping to more accurately determine the type and location of hearing impairment.

Examination is recommended if:

hearing impairment, the cause of which is not clear; suspicion of middle ear or inner ear pathology; tinnitus (noise in the ears), which requires in-depth diagnostics; the need to evaluate the function of the auditory nerve; control is required before or after ENT operations. Timely diagnosis makes it possible to more accurately determine the cause of the problem and start appropriate treatment in time.

How to prepare for the examination?

For the examination to be successful:

do not use ear drops immediately before the visit; take with you the results of previous examinations (audiogram or ENT doctor's notes), if available; for children: the examination is completely painless and takes only a few minutes.

What happens during the examination?

During the examination, the specialist:

insert a small, soft probe into the external ear canal; measures the response of the eardrum to a change in air pressure; plays short, loud sounds and records the reflex response of the middle ear muscle in the same ear; analyzes the obtained results, which provide information about middle ear pressure, the presence of reflexes and their threshold.

What will you get after the examination?

The patient receives:

results of tympanometry and reflex examination with specialist explanation; treatment plan if middle ear function or reflex disorders are detected; recommendations for further observation or additional examinations.
