Radical ear surgery

radical mastoidectomy

€1200

Radical ear surgery is performed to treat serious infection of the middle ear and mastoid bone, including cholesteatoma, a pathological epithelial growth that can destroy bone structures and lead to serious complications. During the operation, the affected bone tissue is removed and the bony ear canal wall is reconstructed using the patient’s own cartilage and fascia.

The procedure is recommended if you have:

  • cholesteatoma with progressive bone destruction;
  • chronic suppurative middle ear disease with eardrum perforation and discharge.

How to prepare for surgery?

First step

Follow the fasting instructions given by the anesthesiologist.

Second step

Tell your doctor about allergies, medication, and any previous experience with anesthesia.

Third step

Complete the full preoperative work-up, including audiometry and CT, which is required for planning this operation.

What happens during surgery?

reaches the mastoid bone through the ear canal or a small incision behind the ear;

removes infected bone tissue, cholesteatoma, and other pathological structures;

reconstructs the posterior wall of the ear canal with the patient’s own cartilage to preserve anatomy and support healing.

The operation usually takes 90 to 180 minutes, depending on the extent of disease.

What to expect after surgery?

recovers in the hospital;

receives instructions on protecting the ear from water and avoiding physical strain;

is informed that recovery is gradual and that regular follow-up is needed to monitor the ear cavity;

receives information about hearing prognosis and further evaluation.

Long-term follow-up with an otolaryngologist is essential after this procedure.
