The OAE measurement is a fast, painless and objective method for evaluating the function of the inner ear, which does not require the active participation of the patient. Therefore, this examination is particularly suitable for evaluating the hearing function of newborns and young children.
Examination is recommended if:
need for newborn hearing screening or early hearing diagnosis for children; suspicion of damage to the inner ear (for example, after exposure to noise or taking certain medications); hearing loss, the cause of which needs to be clarified; tinnitus (noise in the ear) to evaluate the condition of the inner ear; monitoring is required after treatment or surgery that may affect the inner ear. Timely diagnosis makes it possible to more accurately determine the cause of the problem and start appropriate treatment in time.
For accurate results:
do not use ear drops immediately before the examination; silence is required during the examination – children are recommended to be calm or asleep; inform the specialist about previous ear diseases or operations.
During the examination, the specialist:
a small, soft probe is applied to the external ear canal; the probe plays quiet sounds and picks up the echo signals produced by the inner ear; the device automatically analyzes and records the results. The examination for one ear takes about 5-10 minutes.
The patient receives:
