This is the most comprehensive tympanometry examination, which, in addition to standard tympanometry and determination of ipsilateral reflexes, also includes measurements of contralateral reflexes – the sound is played in one ear, and the reflex is measured in the other ear. This method makes it possible to evaluate the integrity of the auditory pathways between the two ears and brainstem activity, providing a more complete diagnostic picture.

Examination is recommended if:

unilateral or asymmetric hearing loss; suspicion of retrocochlear pathology (at the level of the auditory nerve or brainstem); tinnitus (noise in the ear) in one ear, which requires in-depth diagnostics; the need to differentiate the type and location of hearing loss; control is required before or after ear surgery. Timely diagnosis makes it possible to more accurately determine the cause of the problem and start appropriate treatment in time.

How to prepare for the examination?

Preparation is similar to standard tympanometry:

do not use ear drops before the visit; bring the results of previous examinations with you, if available.

What happens during the examination?

During the examination, the specialist:

performs standard tympanometry and determination of ipsilateral reflexes; with the use of additional headphones, play the sound in one ear and measure the reflex response in the other ear; compares the results of ipsilateral and contralateral reflexes to clarify the localization of possible pathology;
