Nasal turbinate surgery (mucotomy)

mucotomy

€450

Mucotomy is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing enlarged nasal shells, structures covered by the mucous membrane that help to warm and moisturize the inhaled air. Shellfish can enlarge due to chronic inflammation, allergies or anatomical features, causing prolonged nasal congestion and difficulty breathing.

Mucotomy is recommended if:

  • chronic nasal congestion – prolonged difficulty breathing through the nose that has not been managed with medication;
  • chronic or allergic rhinitis – persistent swelling and enlargement of the nasal mucosa;
  • breathing problems at night – snoring or episodes of breathlessness
  • significantly reduced air flow through the nose, which affects the quality of life;
  • in cases of deviation (curvature) of the nasal septum, when general anesthesia is not allowed or the patient is afraid of it.

Timely surgical treatment helps to restore free nasal breathing and improve well-being.

How do I prepare for a mucotomy?

First step

Stop taking blood thinners (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen) for 5 days before surgery, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Second step

inform your doctor about allergies, chronic diseases and medications you are taking.

What happens during a mucotomy?

performs surface anesthesia and local injections into the nasal mucosa;

tools and an endoscope are inserted through the nasal passages without externally visible scars;

reduces the volume of shells using radio-frequency or laser method (depending on the situation);

carefully conserve the surrounding tissue.

The operation usually takes 20–45 minutes.

What to expect after surgery?

can usually go home on the same day (after a day in hospital);

receive clear instructions on nasal care and medication use;

be informed of possible temporary symptoms (nasal congestion, minor bleeding);

receive information about the post-operative control visit.

Full nasal breathing usually improves within a few weeks, when the swelling of the mucous membranes subsides.
