Adenoidectomy (pediatric surgery)

for children

€500

Adenotomy is the surgical removal of the nasopharyngeal tonsil (adenoids). Adenoids are lymphoid tissues located in the nasopharyngeal region that can interfere with breathing, middle ear ventilation, and hearing as they increase.

This is one of the most common surgeries for ENT in children and is performed under general anesthesia.

Adenotomy is recommended if the child has:

  • constant breathing through the mouth due to nasal congestion
  • episodes of snoring or sleep apnea
  • frequent otitis media;
  • deterioration of hearing or delayed development of speech
  • frequent infections of the upper respiratory tract.

How do I prepare for my adenotomy?

First step

follow the anesthesiologist’s advice on eating and drinking before surgery.

Second step

on the morning of the day of surgery, the child should neither eat nor drink (except for a small sip of water agreed by the anesthesiologist for the use of special medicines);

Third step

inform the doctor about allergies, chronic diseases and medications used;

Fourth step

calmly explain the course of the procedure to the child — this helps to relieve anxiety;

Fifth step

bring your medical records and the anesthesiologist’s consultation report.

What happens during surgery?

accesses the nasopharynx through the mouth without forming external scars;

removes adenoid tissue (classic or endoscopic);

ascertains that the bleeding has stopped.

The operation usually takes 15–30 minutes.

What to expect after surgery?

at least 4 hours under medical supervision, after which you can go home (depending on the situation);

receive dietary instructions (cool, soft foods are recommended in the first few days);

may experience mild neck pain or a slight increase in temperature;

receive information about the control visit.

Breathing and sleep quality usually improve during the first few days.
